Anyone who knows me, knows that I am NOT a morning person! I am not someone who has to have coffee every morning to function, but I do love it. Coffee seems to be a big controversy... it's good for you, it's bad for you... we've heard it all. Just like everything else, it's all about moderation! Coffee is full of antioxidants, which is great, but caffeine can have different effects on people. When buying coffee from a coffee shop, let's say Starbucks or PJ's (my favorite!), not only is it more expensive than making your own at home, but there can be a lot of hidden calories. Some frappuccinos can have hundreds of calories in them, while they taste great, there is a lot of added sugar and fat when compared to a regular coffee with added creamer and/or sugar. It's better to drink/order a regular coffee, or even plain iced coffee, and add everything yourself so you know exactly what is in it! Sugar free flavoring options are available too! Great alternative!
Also, caffeine has a negative effect on calcium absorption. So people, especially women, who have or are at risk for osteoporosis should be mindful about how much caffeine they are consuming. Drinking a cup or two of coffee a day is fine, but too much can be causing more harm to your bones. One way to help prevent this is resistance training!
